4.1 Laboratories for experimenting, testing and examination

LABORATORY FOR EXPERIMENTING AND QUALITY CERTIFICATION OF
TURBINE ENGINES AND POWER SETS 

DESTINATION

Laboratory activity is certification, diagnosis or monitoring through bench testing, for quality certification of aviation turbine engines with exhausted flight resources, transformed to function with natural gas for industrial applications.

This activity is materialized in complex works to validate design and assembly actions for following products

  1. gas generators – originated from transformed aviation turbine propellers and turbine engines with exhausted flight resources;

  2. free turbine power sets – also originated from aviation turbine propellers with exhausted flight resources, of which the free turbine has been separated end executed as an individual entity;

  3. superchargers power sets – formed by free turbine power sets acting one or two natural gas compressors;

  4. co-generative sets – formed from aviation turbine propellers and turbine engines with exhausted flight resources transformed for functioning with natural gas, acting an electric generator through a reductor; burning gases being recovered through a special pipe system into a after combustion burning chamber in order to produce technological steam

Technical equipment:

In order to achieve these objectives, the laboratory is endowed with distinctive technical equipment, such as:

  • distinctive technological installations, adapted for each tested product, such as: cooling and lubricating, pre fuelling with natural gas, stress dissipation, acting air, start up, fuel proportioning, specific couplings, power, noise dumping, air/oil separators installations;
  • command and control board with parameters reading, for collection of data, warning and protection.

These equipments needed testing, overhauling and repairs, bringing up to date, new adjustments for higher performance in order to meat new demands.

Due to certifying installations evolution and rejuvenation, data acquisition system usages has been introduced; data processing and performance compilers are used for high precision results. Using verification methods – such as vibes determination software, spectral analysis and other processing – a series of problems can be solved, such as mass unbalance compensations, viability and life spam estimation, wear degree that concurs in forming and adequate overhauling and repairs schedule.
Laboratory for Experimenting and Quality Certification of turbine engines is to be certified by all legal procedures, in order to make high complexity determinations of product’s performances, according to EU norms. Usage of SR EN ISO 17025 International Standard will facilitate partnerships between laboratories and other organizations, helping the information and experience exchange and the coordination of standards and procedures.
By implementing new experimental techniques of power sets will increase testing capability of the laboratory in order to enlarge testing of products of different types and sizes, and the opportunity to reduce energy consumption.

TECHNICAL AND ECONOMICAL DEVELOPMENT

For 2006-2007 interval, a plan to bring up to date needed substructure and equipment, for increasing integration degree of Romanian research in EU research.

An actual problem of high importance is environment protection. Like other organizations involved in industrial economic activity, the Experimentation Laboratory will explicitly implement environment protection policy by endowing and incorporating new and efficient phonic and chemical pollution reduction equipments to protect the environment. Equipments like: noise dumpers and air/oil separator (oil recovery efficiency from resulted vapors during functioning is 95%),  will be placed in experiment areas as well as incorporated in products delivered to beneficiary.

BENEFICIARY

Until now, INCDT COMOTI conducted research for manufacturing turbine engine power sets in range of 0,7 – 2 MW, using industrial or air derivative turbine engines, being the only research-development institute with practical results in Romania.

Turbine engines power sets were tested on institute testing bench then capitalized within technical economical applications. Economic users that will continue to benefit from our laboratory expertise are the large companies endowed with supercharger and co-generative sets: DISTRIGAZ, OMV PETROM SA, TERMICA Botoşani, as well as new beneficiaries with products in need of overhauling an/or repairs.
